Partners
Edukans closely cooperates with other organisations in the development field. Our motto is: “together we are strong”. By working together in an alliance in The Netherlands, Edukans has obtained more momentum than it would have on its own. Because of this more money is available for education, and the issue of education can be promoted more effectively.
With local partners
Edukans always works together with local organisations in developing countries: its partner organisations. They know the special needs of a country, they are close to the indigenous population, they are innovative, flexible and show a true commitment with the target groups.
Edukans agrees with them about the financing period of programmes or projects, the measures the partner organisation could take to make the project operate independently after a convened period of financing, strengthening the capacity of the people etcetera. The Government should eventually take its responsibility in close co-operation with the very community, which devotes itself to the preservation and the improvement of education in general.
Edukans examines every request for a project for its actual results:
- direct poverty reduction (infrastructure, educational tools, training of teachers, and the like)
- strenghening of civil society. Strengthening social groups operating in the centre of society, the power of certain social groups to address the government to take its responsibility.
- lobby and advocacy. What does the implementing organisation specifically to press the government to devote itself more to Education, and to realise the Millennium Development Goals?
Important partners of Edukans: India, Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Peru. Twice a year, the partner organisations report their activities to Edukans. Edukans staff-members or members of one of the other organisations regularly visit the projects.
CNV (a general Christian teachers union) Department: Education
Education is essential for the development and education of children. Yet world-wide millions of children still do not go to school. This must be changed! That is why CNV, a teachers union and Edukans have decided to work together intensively. After four successful years in which educational projects in India, Ethiopia and Peru were pivoted, this year the focus is on education in Kenya. In “Schooljournaal” the weekly magazine for members of the CNV trade union, articles on educational subjects are regularly published.

Edukans – ICCO alliance
Edukans is part of an alliance, a co-operation with ICCO (Interchurch Organisation for Development Cooperation), in which Edukans participates with Churches in Action, Prisma, Oikocredit and Share People. Edukans has specific expertise on basic education and plays a co-ordinating role in the ICCO alliance. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs granted the alliance a subsidy for the period of 1 January 2007 – 31 December 2010.
In such a wider cooperation in an alliance Edukans is better able to put basic education on the agenda and contribute more effectively to the Millennium Development Goals.
