Welkom bij Learn4Work, hét Schokland programma voor beroepsonderwijs!

Over Learn4Work
Learn4Work is een programma gericht op het verbeteren van beroepsonderwijs in 4 Afrikaanse landen. Vele beroepsonderwijsinstellingen en NGO’s werken samen aan het vergroten van de toegang tot beroepsonderwijs. Ook is er veel aandacht voor het verbeteren van de kwaliteit van het onderwijs. Door de betrokkenheid van veel Nederlandse beroepsonderwijsinstellingen zullen meer jongeren en volwassenen zelf actief betrokken raken bij ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Naast draagvlakversterking zullen zij ook goed kunnen bijdragen aan fondsenwervende activiteiten.

De achterliggende gedachte
Een belangrijke doelstelling van onderwijs is dat jongeren na hun opleiding een goede baan kunnen vinden. Dit betekent dat zij met hun diploma op zak niet alleen een vak beheersen, maar ook voldoende vaardigheden en competenties bezitten waarmee zij op de arbeidsmarkt kunnen meedraaien. Helaas heeft beroepsonderwijs in veel landen een lage status: het leidt niet op voor de gewilde witte-boorden banen en een diploma in het beroepsonderwijs biedt veelal geen toegang tot vervolgopleidingen. Ook overheden besteden vaak maar weinig aandacht en middelen in beroepsonderwijs.

Activiteiten
Learn4Work richt zich op vier landen, namelijk Ghana, Kenia, Ethiopië en Zambia. Diverse onderwijsinstellingen zoals MBO’s, HBO’s en AOC’s werken samen met NGO’s, bedrijven en kenniscentra aan diverse projecten. Door inzet van studenten tot aan het schoolmanagement, kan verbetering plaatsvinden op alle niveaus van een opleidingscentrum. De samenwerking van ongelijksoortige organisaties stimuleert innovatie en synergie. Zo kunnen straks meer jongeren een vak leren en een betere baan vinden.

Edukans
Eén van de speerpunten van Edukans is het thema onderwijs voor werk. Edukans, als belangrijke schakel tussen het Nederlandse onderwijsveld en de ontwikkelingssamenwerkingsector, coördineert daarom dit initiatief. Dit betekent dat Edukans de verschillende deelnemers aan elkaar verbindt. Tevens geeft Edukans inhoudelijk advies over de projectvoorstellen.

Learn4Work (English version)

Learn4Work is a new in initiative aiming to strengthen the efforts for international development. The programme is one of the results of the Pact of Schokland from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme targets to improve technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia. The focus is on access and quality.

Point of departure is that TVET is an opportune means to contribute to substantial and sustainable income for youth/young people for the long-term. Learn4Work targets particularly those who are marginalised.

In all four countries a local consultant made an inventory of the local situation and issues (mapping). Subsequently, various parties involved discussed the outcomes in validation workshops. The outcomes of these studies and workshops are guiding for the issues the Learn4Work will target.

Learn4Work strives to achieve the following results:

Access to TVET improved in selected areas in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia.
Quality of TVET available improved in selected areas in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia.
A broad international network is established, which is open to new parties, leading to linking and learning on a regular basis.
Vocational education providers in the South (and in the North) strengthened both institutionally and in terms of capacity.
Awareness raised in Dutch society, especially in schools, among students, and the business sector, about the importance of access to good vocational education for youngsters in developing countries, leading to common fundraising strategies for educational and development organisations.

The objectives will be achieved through cooperation of different types of organisations, which generates cross-pollination, innovative interventions, increased sustainability and a strengthened voice for lobby and advocacy. Learn4Work is an open initiative. In the past months, more than 30 African and Dutch organisations have already shown their interest to participate in Learn4Work, such as education institutes, companies and NGO’s.
