Welkom bij Learn4Work!
Onderwijs-voor-werk is één van de speerpunten van Edukans. Vandaar dat Edukans nauw betrokken is bij het Learn4Work-programma dat zich richt op het verbeteren van het beroepsonderwijs in Afrika. Learn4Work is één van de Akkoorden die is gesloten om de Millenniumdoelstellingen te behalen.
Beroepsonderwijs in Afrika
Beroepsonderwijs is erg belangrijk voor de ontwikkeling van een land. Maar in Afrika kampt deze sector met een aantal problemen. De lesstof sluit vaak niet aan op wat er op de werkvloer wordt gevraagd. Beroepsopleidingen hebben een lage status en ontvangen van overheden maar weinig aandacht en geld. Het is lastig goede leerkrachten te krijgen. En voor sommige groepen jongeren is het moeilijk om toegang te krijgen tot de opleidingen; denk aan meisjes, gehandicapten, of jongeren uit afgelegen gebieden. Het is dus hard nodig om de toegang tot goede kwaliteit beroepsonderwijs te verbeteren.
Het Learn4Work-programma
In het Learn4Work-programma werken teams van ten minste 4 organisaties samen aan een project. Elk team bestaat uit zowel Afrikaanse als Nederlandse organisaties met verschillende afkomst: ontwikkelingsorganisaties, scholen, kenniscentra, bedrijven of overheidsorganisaties. Zo ontstaat een goede mix van alle kennis en vaardigheden die nodig zijn om daadwerkelijk iets te kunnen bereiken. Daarnaast kunnen de teams en andere betrokkenen hun inzichten uitwisselen op de diverse workshops die worden georganiseerd.
Na gedegen onderzoek naar de situatie ter plekke in Ethiopië, Ghana, Kenia en Zambia zijn in 2009 acht projecten van start gegaan. Op dit moment worden de eerste resultaten geboekt. De teams ontwikkelen lesprogramma’s die beter aansluiten op de arbeidsmarkt, ze zetten bijscholingen op voor leerkrachten, ze begeleiden afgestudeerde studenten bij het vinden van een baan, ze kijken of het management van een opleidingsinstituut kan worden verbeterd en zorgen voor betere onderwijsmiddelen. Ondertussen zijn ook veel Nederlandse studenten en leerkrachten bij de projecten betrokken, die in ons land bijdragen aan bewustwording en fondsenwerving.
Edukans
Edukans coördineert het gehele programma, is betrokken bij twee van de projecten en adviseert en begeleidt de projecten.

Learn4Work (English version)
Education-for-work is of main interest for Edukans. Edukans is therefore closely involved in the Learn4Work programme which aims to improve Technical and Vocational Training in Africa. Learn4Work is one of the Agreements made to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
Technical and Vocational Education in Africa (TVET)
Good quality TVET is a prerequisite to development. In Africa, however, TVET struggles with various problems. The curriculum often lacks congruity to the labour market. Teachers and educational institutes are undervalued. For some youths it’s difficult to find access to TVET-courses, such as girls, handicapped or diseased youths and youths from remote areas. And as (inter)national policy mainly focuses on primary and higher education, TVET receives few financial and professional inputs. Obviously, access to good quality TVET needs our attention.
The Learn4Work programme
Within the Learn4Work programme partnerships of at least 4 organisations collaborate in TVET projects. A partnership consists of both Dutch and African partners with various social backgrounds: NGO’s, educational institutes, companies, knowledge centres. This provides each team with the right mix of knowledge and competences needed to address the problems with TVET effectively. In addition partnerships and other relevant actors van share experiences at workshops and seminars.
After in depth studies into the national TVET situation in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia, eight projects took off in 2009. The first results can already be registered. The partnerships develop curriculums better suited to the labour market, they provide teachers with additional courses, they help TVET-graduates to find employment, they assess whether the management of educational institutes need assistance and provide schools with teaching materials. At the same time, many Dutch students and teachers are involved, contributing to awareness and fundraising in The Netherlands.
Edukans
Edukans coordinates the overall programme, is involved in two of the projects and provides advises and assistance to all projects.
