Annually Edukans involves over 300.000 Dutch students in education in developing countries. This is done by campaigns such as “Actie Schoenmaatjes” (Action Shoebox). Primary school children fill a shoe box with toys or school things for their peers in developing countries.
Secondary school students visit educational projects in developing countries with Going Global, another major campaign of Edukans. In 2008 some 45 students plan to visit Uganda. When they come back, they involve their fellow students at their schools in what they have seen and experienced. All the children learn to identify with their peers in the South.
In 2006 Edukans worked in six countries where 77,497 children and youngsters via 63 organisations were supported which; an average of 1230 per organisation.
In all projects involved, Edukans explicitly looks at the gender balance (the number of boys and girls involved in educational initiatives).
The partner organisations write a report about their activities twice a year. Edukans staff-members or an experienced consultant of another organisation regularly visit the projects.
