Millennium Goals

Millennium Goals and Edukans

World-wide 80 million children aged 6 – 12 years do not attend school. Poverty, War, handicaps, discrimination or the HIV/aids pandemic make  this a gloomy perspective. The United Nations have set Millennium Development Goals which should be reached by the year 2015.

Edukans is dedicated to the realisation of two MDGs (MDGs 2 and 3)

  1. By 2015 all children  of all countries, both boys and girls, must be offered the opportunity to complete full primary education.
  2. Getting rid of inequality between boys and girls in primary and secondary education, preferably to be realised in 2005, and on all levels of education at the very latest in 2015.

Edukans also commits itself to the goals of  “Education for All”, especially those related to quality.

  • Improving the quality of education. Regrettably, when the number of children who attend school grows, quality may be negatively influenced (for instance, too many children in one form, too many teachers falling out because of HIV/aids).
  •  The poorest children (ten to twenty percent poorest) are also entitled to have quality education in order to be able to improve their standard of living.
